Day 3 – The Sunrise

Not put off by yesterday’s poor attempt of a sunrise behind all the clouds we headed back to Clovelly Beach on the 04:53 bus. We were greeted by a magnificent view,  pre-sunrise. As tempting as the swim would have been there, we had already set our sites on Bronte Beach with a hike around the cliffs to get there.

Made the sunrise
Loving the sunrise
Here it comes
Halfway there
Sun’s up
Box seats with a view
Time for a swim
Bronte Beach

After watching the sunrise at Bronte Beach, and having a swim in the beach pool, it was the long walk past the graveyard and on to Bondi Beach to watch the surfers.

Did we really come all that way
Yes, and we’re not there yet
Another beach on route
Bondi Beach Pool
Surfs up at Bondi

An amazing 6km walk all the way to Bondi, watched the surfers and the serious swimmers before jumping on a bus and heading back at 09:00

Taronga to Balmoral

After getting back, it was time to make a picnic,  pack a bag and head for another 5km trek. Taking the Ferry from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo, avoiding the zoo, we headed straight for the trail. We got talking to a  lovely couple from South Korea. It turns out he’d spent 3 years in Charminster, Bournemouth  30 years ago. Once on the track we were soon passing some unbelievable viewing points over the harbour. These are packed between June and November as the Humpbacks come into the mouth of the harbour on their migration path.

Another day another ferry
It’s the same view as yesterday
A better view
Navy memorial
No time to rest
Shark defence enclosed beach
Termite hill?
Kookaburra
Time for a swim
Sun, sea and sand
With ice cream
Time to go

After a long hike we arrived at the beach.  We had a swim in the shark protected area,  this was full of debris which obviously couldn’t escape the steel nets. The plus side was that if nothing was getting out, nothing was getting in.

Lots of the locals opted for the cleaner beach, a wise choice but we weren’t taking any chances – we’ve seen JAWS.

A jump on the ferry and the tram and we were back in the city again for some games.
